An extra £86,000,000 available for businesses to help accelerate innovation and deliver medical breakthroughs to the NHS and beyond - sounds pretty good, right?

I work with both large scale pharma companies, as well as SME businesses, so for me, it's great to see this extra resource available to them to continue the brilliant work they already do.

For the Life Sciences Industry in the UK to thrive in what is undoubtedly a period of uncertainty we need businesses of all shapes and sizes to contribute. Ultimately the goal is to accelerate patient access to the latest innovations and, to do that, we need businesses to have all the tools they need at their disposal.

Looking forward to seeing what comes from all this!

{Health minister Lord O’Shaughnessy has unveiled a new package of support worth up to £86 million to help innovative UK businesses develop medical breakthroughs that are then used across the NHS.

The funding marks the first step in taking forward recommendations made in the AAR, which aim to accelerate patient access to the latest innovations.

The cash stream is being provided jointly by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department of Health.

It is hoped that it will enable those Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) successful in their bids for funding to develop and test new technologies in the NHS, as well as speed up the time it takes to get new technologies from the lab into the real-world setting.
