Head of Software Engineering

This is an opportunity to join a pioneering team working on breakthrough neurotechnology with the ambition of transforming the treatment of neurological conditions by developing implantable systems that enable direct communication between the brain and technology.

The Role

As Head of Software Engineering, you will lead the development of the software stack that enables communication between implantable neural devices and end users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, develop and lead a high-performing software engineering team.

  • Design and develop software for real-time acquisition, preprocessing and decoding of neural signals.

  • Develop software supporting targeted neural stimulation through implantable devices.

  • Design and optimise signal processing pipelines and decoding algorithms with strict latency and reliability requirements.

  • Define the software architecture across embedded interfaces, middleware and application layers.

  • Collaborate closely with hardware, electronics and clinical teams to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative medical technology designed to improve patient outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced technical leader with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges within an innovative, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.

  • Strong background in software engineering and software architecture.

  • Excellent understanding of real-time software systems, latency and resource-constrained environments.

  • Strong programming skills in at least one systems language (C, C++ or Rust) and one higher-level language such as Python.

  • Experience with digital signal processing; exposure to neural data is advantageous.

  • Experience with embedded software, firmware or regulated medical device development would be beneficial.

  • Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Physics or a related discipline.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

  • Fluent English is essential; German is beneficial but not required.
